Dr Emily is a UK-trained GP who graduated from Oxford University in 2004. She was educated in France prior to medical school and speaks fluent English and French. She initially trained in general hospital medicine and obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2008. Following this, Dr Kara decided to retrain as a GP. She became a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2014 whilst working in a busy GP surgery in Notting Hill, London. She is still registered with the General Medical Council (GMC UK) and licensed to practice in North-West London.

Dr Kara moved with her husband and two children to China in 2014 and provided healthcare to the English and French-speaking expatriate communities in Beijing and Shanghai, where she had strong ties with Harrow International School (Beijing) and the Lycée Francais (Shanghai). She enjoyed teaching and was appointed the Deputy Director of the Family Medicine Fellowship Program at Jiahui International Hospital, Shanghai, in 2021. She relocated with her family to Singapore in the summer of 2022.

Dr Kara’s experience includes the management of both chronic diseases (thyroid disease, diabetes, asthma) and more acute medical concerns (infections, minor injuries). In addition, she has extensive experience helping patients with mental health conditions and has helped many expatriates cope with anxiety and depression. With a diploma from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRCOG), she can provide gynaecology check-ups, including cancer screening (pap smears, breast exams), STD (sexually transmitted disease) screening and can give contraceptive advice. She also has experience in helping women through menopause. Dr Kara strongly believes in continuity of care and spends time getting to know her patients to provide holistic care for the whole family.

Carmel joined the AMEA region at the start of 2023 from the United Kingdom where she held the role of Legal Director for the UK and Ireland business and supported the crisis management and litigation for Kellanova (previously known as Kellogg) Europe.
